the climb

Here’s some career advice that I wish I had earlier.

Ask yourself which ladder are you climbing

and more importantly inquire deeply

why are you on a ladder anyhow

What if you were so busy climbing

So determined and desperate to scale

To stretch and to reach the next rung

Sweat dripping into your eyes, stinging

Blisters forming on your hands, bleeding

Sand slipping through the glass, piling

Because what if some day

or some year

or some decades later

You finally reach new heights

only to look up and realize your ladder

was against the wrong building all along
